Bland Farms Confirms Robust Start to 2025 Vidalia Season

Innovative sustainable practices secure premium Vidalia quality amid challenging weather conditions

Bland Farms has confirmed a robust start to the 2025 Vidalia Sweet Onion season as the official harvest period begins amid cautious optimism for what lies ahead.

On April 15, 2025, as announced by the Georgia Department of Agriculture and the Vidalia Onion Committee, the season has officially commenced, with Bland Farms completing its first round of harvesting and initiating nationwide shipments to retailers.

Despite expectations that the overall volume will be lower than last year’s unusually large crop, industry insiders are optimistic that this season will follow a more typical cycle, extending through early September while maintaining the high quality and consistent flavor the brand is known for.

In a season characterized by cooler and wetter growing conditions, Bland Farms has reported that the quality of this year’s Vidalia Sweet Onion crop remains excellent despite a slight reduction in volume.

“This year’s crop may be slightly lighter in volume, but the quality is excellent. We’re seeing great flavor and uniformity across the fields, and our team is fully prepared to meet demand throughout the summer.”

Troy Bland, CEO of Bland Farms

His remarks underscore the company’s commitment to delivering premium produce while adapting to the variable conditions that can impact yield from one season to the next.

Based in Glennville, Georgia, Bland Farms stands as the largest grower, packer, and shipper of Vidalia Sweet Onions, representing approximately one-quarter of the total market.

The company’s leadership in the industry is further reinforced by its operation of the largest controlled-environment storage facility in the category, which plays a crucial role in preserving freshness and extending the availability of the crop throughout the season.

These strategic investments not only safeguard product quality but also enhance the overall efficiency of distribution across national markets.

Innovation and sustainability remain at the forefront of Bland Farms’ operational philosophy.

The company has recently introduced laser weeders into its organic Vidalia fields a cutting-edge technique that eliminates the need for chemical herbicides, reduces labor costs, and fosters faster, healthier growth.

Currently, over 100 acres are dedicated to organic Vidalia production, with expansion plans in place to meet rising consumer demand for organically grown produce.

“We’ve always believed that farming should be as responsible as it is productive. Our team continues to invest in innovation while staying rooted in the values that built this company quality, transparency, and care for the land.”

Delbert Bland, Owner of Bland Farms

His words reflect a deep-rooted commitment to environmental stewardship and technological progress in agriculture.

In response to evolving consumer preferences, Bland Farms has doubled its production of bagged onions over the past five years, now operating eight full-time bagging lines that cater to the growing market for packaged and traceable produce.

This strategic pivot not only addresses the trend toward convenience and transparency but also aligns with the company’s broader mission to meet market demands while ensuring product quality.

“Keeping our retailers and consumers happy is our top priority. We pivot based on market trends and are always looking for meaningful ways to engage consumers which, in turn, drives value for our retail partners. This season, we’re focusing on families and encouraging everyone to slow down and savor the simple pleasures of summer.”

Sloan Lott, Director of Sales at Bland Farms

His comments emphasize the critical role that customer engagement plays in driving both sales and long-term loyalty.

Complementing its operational strategies, Bland Farms is launching a new consumer campaign titled “Savor Summer’s Sweetest Moments.”

This initiative will showcase Vidalia-based recipes, feature seasonal giveaways, and leverage engaging social media content along with branded in-store merchandising designed to boost awareness and drive sales throughout the season.

The campaign underscores the company’s commitment to connecting with consumers at a personal level, while reinforcing the premium quality and distinct flavor profile of Vidalia Sweet Onions.
