Duncan Family Farms and Coosemans-Phoenix Launch Joint Venture

The partnership focuses on delivering fresher, locally sourced herbs, microgreens, and specialty crops across Arizona, with plans to expand to neighboring states, leveraging sustainable farming and efficient distribution.

Duncan Family Farms, a prominent multi-regional certified organic farm known for producing lettuces, greens, and vegetables, has formed a strategic partnership with Coosemans-Phoenix LLC to introduce Duncan Family Farms Specialties.

This joint venture aims to enhance the availability and distribution of local fresh herbs, microgreens, and specialty crops like Shishito peppers across key markets, primarily serving Arizona, with plans to expand to Nevada and California. By combining Duncan Family Farms’ expertise in organic crop production with Coosemans’ proficiency in packing and distribution, the collaboration seeks to deliver faster, more efficient farm-to-shelf solutions.

The partnership is rooted in a nearly decade-long conversation between James Macek, President of Coosemans-Phoenix, and Will Feliz, CEO of Duncan Family Farms. Macek reflects on the initial discussions, highlighting how they identified the need for domestically grown, high-quality organic herbs. With the launch of Duncan Family Farms Specialties, the two companies solidify their shared vision, allowing for more agile fulfillment of customer requests, fewer food miles, and direct access to fresh produce from the farm.

Serving the Southwestern United States, Duncan Family Farms Specialties aims to optimize operations within this region before scaling their reach and capabilities. The venture is designed to meet the growing demand for locally sourced specialty produce while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability and freshness. This alignment between the farm’s production capacity and Coosemans’ distribution network enhances both companies’ ability to deliver quality produce to regional markets efficiently.

Feliz expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the long-standing successful relationship between Duncan Family Farms and Coosemans-Phoenix. He noted that this collaboration benefits their customers and brings positive outcomes for their teams. With a focus on delivering high-quality specialty produce, the companies anticipate growing their collective footprint in the fresh produce market.

Duncan Family Farms, founded in 1985 by Arnott and Kathleen Duncan, currently cultivates over 8,000 acres of certified organic produce, specializing in baby lettuces, greens, kale, microgreens, and herbs. The farm is recognized nationally for its environmentally conscious farming practices and dedication to producing premium-quality fresh vegetables. Through sustainable and innovative methods, Duncan Family Farms is committed to providing clean and nutritious food for consumers.

On the other side of the partnership, Coosemans-Phoenix is a key player in the specialty produce industry and part of the Coosemans Worldwide network. With over 30 companies under its umbrella across the U.S. and internationally, Coosemans-Phoenix is well-regarded for its wide range of high-quality specialty produce offerings.
