HarvestHold Offers 50% More Freshness For Produce

Verdant Technologies has introduced an innovative solution to the agricultural sector with HarvestHold Fresh, a technology designed to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables significantly.

This product promises to revolutionize the way produce is handled from harvest to consumer, leveraging a simple yet effective mechanism to slow down the ripening and aging processes that often lead to premature spoilage.

HarvestHold Fresh operates on the principle of controlling the natural ripening process through the application of a proprietary technology that prints 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) onto sheets. These sheets are then placed directly into produce boxes at the time of harvest.

The technology harnesses the power of 1-MCP, a well-known ethylene action inhibitor, which is activated by the relative humidity within the packaging. This controlled release mechanism ensures that the fruits and vegetables ripen at a slower pace, effectively extending their freshness and usability by up to 50%.

HarvestHold Fresh promises to increase up to 50% of freshness and usability of produce products.

The benefits of using HarvestHold Fresh are multifaceted. For growers and marketers, the technology offers a significant reduction in food waste, a critical issue in the agriculture industry where margins can be tight and waste levels high.

By extending the freshness of produce, growers can avoid the common problem of produce spoiling before it reaches the consumer. This not only improves economic outcomes for farmers by reducing the quantity of rejected produce but also enhances their reputation for quality in increasingly competitive markets.

Retailers also stand to gain from incorporating HarvestHold Fresh into their operations. The extended shelf life of fruits and vegetables means that stores can maintain a fresher stock for longer periods, reducing the need for frequent restocking and minimizing the financial losses associated with unsold, spoiled goods.

Consumers will receive higher quality products with the use of HarvestHold Fresh

For consumers, the impact is direct and tangible: they receive higher-quality, longer-lasting produce, which contributes to better nutrition and less frequent shopping trips.

Furthermore, the environmental implications of this technology are significant. By reducing the amount of food waste, HarvestHold Fresh indirectly contributes to lessening the environmental footprint of the agricultural industry. Less food waste translates to lower emissions of greenhouse gases typically released during the decomposition of organic matter in landfills.

Additionally, by optimizing the supply chain and reducing the need for rapid transport to beat spoilage deadlines, HarvestHold Fresh helps in lowering the overall energy consumption and carbon emissions associated with logistics.

Verdant Technologies is set to showcase HarvestHold Fresh at the upcoming CPMA, where it will be featured in the innovation zone, highlighting its groundbreaking approach to extending the shelf life of produce.
