H-E-B, Texas’ leading grocery retailer, has finalized the acquisition of nearly 500 acres in Hempstead for a new distribution campus, signaling a major expansion in Waller County.
The land deal, part of a multi-phase development plan, aims to bolster H-E-B’s supply chain operations to meet growing business demands. Construction of the campus is slated to commence in late 2024, located south of U.S. Highway 290 and east of Highway 6.
The distribution campus is expected to feature several facilities that will enhance H-E-B’s logistics and distribution capabilities.
While specific details of the campus design remain under wraps, they are anticipated to be unveiled progressively as the project evolves. This strategic investment not only aims to enhance operational efficiency but also to better serve H-E-B’s clientele throughout Texas.
Carson Landsgard , according to H-E-B’s press release, H-E-B’s Chief Supply Chain Officer, emphasized the strategic importance of the new campus.
“The land purchase marks the first step towards establishing a strategically planned campus that will position H-E-B to continue providing outstanding service to our customers into the future,” he explained.
Landsgard highlighted that the development reflects H-E-B’s ongoing commitment to Texas communities and is expected to generate numerous job opportunities in the Hempstead area over the coming years.
Echoing this sentiment, Hempstead Mayor Erica Gillum, welcomed H-E-B’s decision to set roots in the city.
“As our city expands its offerings and economic opportunities, we are pleased to welcome H-E-B to Hempstead, maintaining our small-town charm while allowing progress to flourish,” said Mayor Gillum.
She looks forward to the future benefits that H-E-B’s presence will bring to the local community.
