This summer, Oishii, a leader in vertical farming, will introduce their prized Omakase and Koyo berries to farmers’ markets across the Mid-Atlantic region. From July 21 to September 1, strawberry enthusiasts can savor these unique varieties renowned for their distinct flavors and qualities.
The Omakase Berry, celebrated for its delicate sweetness, aroma, and creamy texture, and the Koyo Berry, known for its vibrant red color, sweetness, and balanced acidity, will be available at various farmers’ markets. “Oishii’s mission has always been to grow delicious produce that’s better for people and the planet,” said Rita Hudetz, Chief Commercial Officer of Oishii. “We’re honored to be a part of these vibrant local food communities and are excited that this summer they’ll see us pop up in a new setting.”
Oishii’s produce is grown in advanced indoor vertical farms, ensuring pesticide-free and non-GMO fruits that are in season all year round. These berries are cultivated using a blend of technology and nature, featuring robots, bees, and farmers working together to grow the perfect fruit. A tray of Omakase berries will be priced at $11.99, while a tray of Koyo berries will be available for $9.99.

According to the press release, this expansion follows significant milestones for Oishii. In February 2024, the company secured $134 million in Series B funding. By June 2024, Oishii had inaugurated their third and largest indoor vertical farm, Amatelas Farm, in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. This state-of-the-art facility spans over 237,500 square feet, operates on renewable energy, and utilizes advanced AI and robotics to produce more than 20 times the number of berries compared to earlier farms.
Oishii, which means “delicious” in Japanese, has revolutionized agriculture with their vertical farming approach, creating perfect growing conditions year-round. Their products, including the newly added Rubi Tomato, are known for their exceptional quality and flavor.
