Oppy and G&M Farms: An Alliance Redefining Exotic Berries

An encounter of innovation and flavor that redefines the fresh fruit experience

A fresh wave of premium berries is set to hit the market this spring, as Vancouver-based fresh produce distributor Oppy teams up with Selma, California’s G&M Farms.

This collaboration aims to offer consumers a range of innovative berry options, appealing to those seeking unique and exotic fruit varieties.

By merging G&M Farms’ specialized growing expertise with Oppy’s robust distribution and marketing network, the partnership plans to introduce multiple high-flavor berries while expanding California blueberry offerings.

Together, they strive to cater to consumer demand for standout fruit, building on successes from the previous season and setting the stage for an even stronger presence in grocery aisles.

The two companies had already scored a major triumph last year with Pink Cosmo™ and Hunkaberry jumbo blueberries.

Building on that momentum, they are now unveiling Mango Kist and Maui Sunset blueberries, as well as Sugar Diamond blackberries, as part of their expanded lineup.

These new varieties, described as “exotic” and “flavor-forward,” were carefully selected for their taste profiles, ensuring consumers have access to what both partners believe are some of the best berries currently in development.

The collaboration’s purpose is clear: Oppy and G&M Farms want to diversify the berry category by introducing new tastes and colors that set them apart in a highly competitive market.

Although Pink Cosmo™ and Hunkaberry blueberries had already demonstrated significant appeal, the companies view these new offerings as an opportunity to pique shoppers’ curiosity even further.

They aim to develop a new generation of premium berries, ensuring consistent quality control through close oversight from seed to shelf.

This commitment involves a thorough approach to research, cultivation, and marketing, streamlining the journey that each berry variety makes from the farm to the consumer’s table.

Vancouver, BRITISH COLUMBIA headquartered Oppy has a long history of bringing fresh produce to North America. Meanwhile, G&M Farms maintains a respected reputation as a premier berry producer in California’s agriculture-rich Central Valley.

Their combined strengths were highlighted last year with the successful introduction of specialty berries, and this new venture aims to solidify that partnership.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the team at G&M Farms, whose commitment to quality and innovation aligns perfectly with Oppy’s mission to bring fresh, exciting options to our customers. Together, we’ll build on the amazing response to Pink Cosmo blues we experienced last year by introducing more premium, high-flavor blueberries and blackberries to set our portfolio apart.”

Jason Fung, Vice President of Oppy’s Berry Category

In step with the new varieties, the partnership will also increase its emphasis on California blueberry production, reinforcing both brands’ commitment to shipping only top-tier fruit.

Central to this push is the focus on advanced farming methods that enhance berry flavor, size, and quality, ensuring that each release meets stringent standards.

While national and global competition within the berry sector continues to intensify, Oppy and G&M Farms believe that consistently delivering standout varieties not only meets but surpasses consumer expectations for fresh produce.

Harvest at G&M Farms is set to begin in early May.

This schedule is designed to guarantee the freshest harvest reaches retailers at its peak, leveraging California’s spring climate to bring berries to market when buyers are primed for something new.

Whether it’s the anticipated Mango Kist or the lush Maui Sunset blueberries, the companies predict these offerings will capture shoppers’ attention through bright color, sweet flavor, and distinctive textures.

Beyond these immediate releases, plans are already in motion to continue fostering innovation in the berry pipeline, leading to additional specialty varieties that are still under development.

“These are some of the most exotic berries on the planet, and we’re confident they will intrigue shoppers and spark a lot of excitement in the berry category.I’m absolutely confident these varieties will leave a lasting impression on anyone seeking fresh produce with a truly distinctive flavor profile. From the sweet juiciness of Mango Kist to the tropical allure of Maui Sunset, we’ve carefully chosen each one to shine on the shelf and in the kitchen.”

Greg Willems, Co-Owner of G&M Farms

By merging powerful genetics, innovative farming practices, and strategic marketing, Oppy and G&M Farms are reimagining what consumers can expect from fresh berries.

The partnership reflects a forward-thinking approach in a competitive market, emphasizing flavor above all.
