Experienced Industry Leader Takes Helm to Drive Future Growth
Potandon Produce, a leading North American supplier of fresh potatoes and onions, has announced a significant leadership transition as Mel Davenport, the company’s CEO, steps into retirement after more than three decades of service. David Lawrence, former Fresh Direct CEO, will succeed Davenport as CEO and immediately assume the role.
Davenport’s retirement marks the end of a career distinguished by considerable growth and innovation within Potandon.
Notably, Davenport played a pivotal role in the launch of successful products like Klondike Gold™ potatoes and CarbSmart™.
His leadership also saw the expansion of the Green Giant Fresh line, diversification of product offerings, and the cultivation of a corporate culture focused on sustainability and excellence.

Lawrence’s appointment signals a new chapter for Potandon. His extensive background in fresh food and logistics industries equips him well for this role.
During his tenure at Fresh Direct, Lawrence led initiatives that optimized operations, improved customer experience, and drove significant growth. He also previously served in leadership roles at Taylor Farms Northwest, National Pecan, and C.M. Holtzinger Fruit Company. His proven track record in innovation and operational excellence aligns seamlessly with Potandon’s vision for the future.
Lawrence expressed enthusiasm about his new role, stating, “I am looking forward to joining Potandon Produce and building upon the strong foundation established by Mel and the team.”
