SFU’s BC Centre for Agritech Innovation Leads Agricultural Transformation

Amid the fertile fields of British Columbia, a revolution is brewing in the agricultural sector, spearheaded by Simon Fraser University’s BC Centre for Agritech Innovation (BCCAI).

Positioned as a cornerstone for agritech advancements, BCCAI is dedicated to transforming agriculture through strategic investments and cutting-edge research, aiming to position British Columbia as a global leader in this critical field.

BCCAI’s primary mission is to tackle the acute challenges facing B.C.’s agricultural sector by providing vital support to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and agri-producers.

The center’s Agritech Development Program offers a robust blend of investment, expertise, and project management support designed to enhance productivity and profitability.

With a clear focus on reducing upfront costs and mitigating risks, BCCAI is not only fostering innovation but is also ensuring the commercial viability and success of new agritech solutions.

Over the next five years, BCCAI has set ambitious goals to commercialize $13 million in agritech projects, support over 70 B.C. businesses in revenue growth, and collaboratively develop more than 45 agritech projects. These projects are crucial for building resilient supply chains and tackling global issues such as food security and climate change.

The center thrives on a collaborative model, co-creating and sharing knowledge with a network of experts tailored to support agritech projects. This community includes industry experts, academic researchers, government partners, Indigenous communities, and non-profits. Together, they are developing technological solutions that are not only innovative but also sustainable and scalable, addressing both local and global challenges.

BCCAI is also committed to shaping the next generation of agritech leaders through specialized training and upskilling programs. These initiatives are designed to drive innovation and sustainable practices in modern agriculture, ensuring a stable and secure future for the sector.

The Agritech Development Program specifically supports co-creation and commercialization, providing access to experts and critical resources.

With fund-matching support and guidance for product testing and piloting, BCCAI is a pivotal player in bringing agritech solutions to market more swiftly and effectively.
