Sprouts Farmers Market, a leading specialty retailer of fresh, natural, and organic foods in the U.S., released its 2023 Impact Report on April 30th. Highlighting its commitment to “Impactful Products,” “Thriving Planet,” “Purposeful People,” and “Healthy Communities,” the report details significant achievements across these areas.
According to Brandon Lombardi, Chief Sustainability Officer, the report reflects the company’s mission to enhance living and eating habits through the collective efforts of its 32,000 employees.
The report showcases a variety of accomplishments for 2023. It notes that 19% of total sales were from healthy fruits and vegetables, with $3.3 billion in sales from products having social or environmental benefits.
Sprouts Brand products achieved a 30% organic sales penetration, and the company generated $225 million from local produce sourced from 170 farmers.
In its effort to ensure a thriving planet, Sprouts has set a goal to reduce carbon emissions intensity by 25% per square foot by 2033. The company also avoided the use of 130 million single-use bags, achieved a 70% landfill diversion rate, and recovered 70 million pounds of food through various programs.
For its workforce, the company highlighted that 21% of team members were promoted, creating 3,000 new jobs, and filled 64% of store manager positions from within. Sprouts also invested in its people, delivering 17,000 hours of leadership training and paying $21 million in bonuses to its team members.
Supporting healthy communities, Sprouts’ initiatives involved 3 million children in nutrition education programs, and facilitated the donation of 37 million pounds of food—equivalent to 29 million meals. Additionally, Sprouts team members contributed 5,500 service hours and the company has awarded $20 million to local nonprofits since 2015.
Sprouts Farmers Market operates over 410 stores across 23 states, continuing its tradition as a grocer that centers fresh produce and wellness, inspired by its farm-stand heritage.
