Sunkist Debuts Year of the Snake Citrus Packaging for Lunar New Year 2025

Commemorating a Vibrant Tradition With Festive Citrus Designs and Good Fortune Offerings

Sunkist Growers, Inc., one of North America’s longest-standing citrus cooperatives, is launching new packaging to celebrate the Lunar New Year holiday beginning January 29, 2025, marking the Year of the Snake.

The specially designed 10lb cartons, which can hold Navel or Cara Cara oranges, and matching display bins, suitable for various seasonal citrus such as Pummelos, aim to honor a time-honored tradition of incorporating citrus fruits into festive gatherings.

Citrus plays a symbolic role in Lunar New Year celebrations, representing good fortune, prosperity, and health. The limited-edition Sunkist cartons feature red and gold Chinese-inspired illustrations, reflecting cultural ideals of luck and wealth.

“Our Lunar New Year display bins are ideal for promoting our citrus fruit, including Pummelo grapefruit. It’s the largest citrus fruit, with a zesty, tropical scent and a sweet, tangy flavor. Pummelos are displayed in homes and are consumed for good luck during Lunar New Year festivities.”

Cassie Howard, Senior Director of Category Management

Sunkist’s new packaging was created to highlight the holiday’s vibrant culture while showcasing the cooperative’s commitment to providing high-quality citrus products.

“Lunar New Year is a cherished observance for many of our global consumers, and we are thrilled to celebrate this special occasion with packaging that reflects the vibrant culture and traditions of the holiday,” said Howard. “Our Year of the Snake cartons and display bins not only symbolize prosperity but also showcase the premium quality of Sunkist citrus.”

Retailers can assemble prominent displays featuring the Year of the Snake cartons and bins, enabling shoppers to easily find Pummelos, Blood Oranges, Navels, Cara Cara oranges, lemons, California mandarins, Minneolas, and grapefruit. “The Lunar New Year shopping season is the ideal time for retailers to promote citrus,” states Howard.
